Steel files or steel rasp
History
Early filing or rasping has prehistoric roots and grew naturally out of the blending of the twin inspirations of cutting with stone cutting tools (such as hand axes) and abrading using natural abrasives, such as well-suited types of stone (for example, sandstone).Relatedly, lapping is also quite ancient, with wood and beach sand offering a natural pair of lap and lapping compound. The Disston authors state, "To abrade, or file, ancient man used sand, grit, coral, bone, fish skin, and gritty woods,—also stone of varying hardness in connection with sand and water."
The Bronze Age and the Iron Age had various kinds of files and rasps. Archaeologists have discovered rasps made from bronze in Egypt, dating back to the years 1200–1000 BC. Archaeologists have also discovered rasps made of iron used by the Assyrians, dating back to the 7th Century BC.
Ordinary files can be divided into five types based on the shape of the file cross-section: flat files, square files, triangular files, semi-circular files, and round files. Flat files are used to file flat, outer circular, and convex surfaces; A square file is used to file square holes, rectangular holes, and narrow surfaces; a Triangle file is used to file inner corners, triangular holes, and flat surfaces; Half round files are used to file concave curved surfaces and flat surfaces;
A round file is used to file round holes, smaller concave curved surfaces, and elliptical surfaces. Special files are used to file the special surfaces of parts, and there are two types: straight and curved;
Shaping file ( needle files) are suitable for repairing small parts of workpieces, and there are many sets of files with various cross-sectional shapes.
